What does AI say about Jesus?

Historian researching Jesus

Like it or loath it, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is here and is not going away soon. Like any tool, it can be used for good or evil.

So, what do these powerful information processors, with access to immense libraries of data, say about Jesus? Here we used two of the leading AI chatbots to ask about Jesus.

Note: whatever AI and the scholars of history say, the team at Reach Medway trusts in the biblical accounts and have personal experiences of the love and healing power of Jesus.

Firstly, what are ChatGPT and Grok?

ChatGPT and Grok are two advanced AI chatbots with distinct features and strengths:
ChatGPT-5 is known for its clarity, tone sensitivity, and modularity, making it effective for various tasks, including complex problem-solving and creative storytelling.
Grok 4, on the other hand, offers detailed answers with a focus on depth and precision, often providing more nuanced responses, especially in specialised areas.
Grok is designed to be unconventional, blending humor and boldness into its responses, while ChatGPT is more aligned with safe outputs and reliable performance.
Grok also integrates live data from platforms like X (formerly Twitter), making it ideal for current events and trends, whereas ChatGPT is more versatile across various tasks.

In summary, ChatGPT excels in clarity and versatility, while Grok is known for its depth and specialised capabilities.

Question 1: What is the probability that Jesus existed?

Grok’s answer

The probability that the historical Jesus existed is effectively >99.9% within mainstream historical scholarship.

Historians don’t produce an exact number, but if forced into probabilistic language, the scholarly consensus is often paraphrased as something like:

“Extremely high—on the order of 95% or more.”

Only a very small number of fringe scholars argue otherwise, and their views are not accepted in mainstream historical research.

Question 2: How much can we know about Jesus and did any supernatural events occur?

Grok’s answer

Bottom line

  • Historical Jesus: We know a surprising amount — more than about most 1st-century Galilean peasants. The core outline is not seriously disputed by any significant scholar today.
  • Supernatural events: History can establish that remarkable claims were made very early and believed sincerely, but whether any miracle or the resurrection actually happened is ultimately a philosophical/theological judgment, not a historical proof.

If you are asking purely as a question of secular history, the answer is: “We cannot know that any supernatural events occurred; we can only say the claims were made extraordinarily early and changed the world.” If you are open to philosophical and theological reasoning beyond strict historical method, then the resurrection in particular remains a live option that many intelligent scholars continue to defend.

Of course, you can do your own research! There is nothing more important than finding true salvation. The clue is in the name, Jesus, which is all about salvation.

Deuteronomy 4:29 But from there you will seek the LORD your God, and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul.

Proverbs 8:17 I love those who love me, And those who seek me diligently will find me.

Romans 10:20 But Isaiah is very bold and says: “I was found by those who did not seek Me; I was made manifest to those who did not ask for Me.”

Proverbs 8:35 For whoever finds me finds life, And obtains favor from the LORD
